What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

QUESTION 3

I personally think a media institution such as IPC would be the perfect publisher for my magazine based on a number of reasons. First of all my target audience is extremely vast. With so many possible buyers it would make sense for a big company to snap up the opportunity of selling so many copies. Also IPC’s advertising pull is very large as well it can advertise products in previous magazines as well as its well-known website. Using IPC’s advertising pull is vital as well so making my magazine fit the criteria they require to advertise my magazine would be important. However despite this there are many benefits of going with a smaller publisher, because it would be far cheaper to advertise, therefore profits would increase providing people see the advertisements.

I believe with the help of market force (IPC’s) distributor I could get copies sold into WH smiths. The reasoning behind this is that my magazine appeals to so many different kinds of people it would be sure to rake in profits not only this but it only costs £1.50 making it far cheaper than any other magazine in its field. Although I am confident of my magazines success I am aware that 9/10 magazines fail within their first three years of sale.

To further my magazines popularity I will most likely link it to a radio station as a sister product. Not only this, it is also likely my magazine will perform charity events to gain even more renown. I will shops such as Burtons as my advertising revenue In order to gain more publicity from my target audience as Burtons is where they would be likely to shop.
