QUESTION 2
My magazine covers a fairly vast target
audience, which is from the ages of 16-22 I have represented these in fairly
different ways. For example on my cover is a boy aged roughly 17 with his hood
up, this immediately connotes chav. The lighting around the person is also dim
showing perhaps a sense of eeriness around the character. I think this is
stereotypical of chavs and thus this is how I chose to represent them. I did
consider changing people’s views on chavs but I thought doing so would ruin the
feeling I wanted my cover magazine to show.
On my DPS (Double page spread) I showed a
fairly indie dressed boy (celebrity). I displayed an interview with the
individual I think from the questions and responses I chose. I stuck to the typical
stereotype that all boys are interested in girls and football. I however did
challenge some stereotypes, for example my celebrity talks about clothing
brands which is mostly associated with women. In doing so I felt I varied the
range of what people would be interested in this particular celebrity. For the
pose of my celebrity I chose to him smiling which gives out the impression that
indie artists are particularly friendly to their fans and general people. To
help create this I made the lighting fairly light which connotes happiness,
this also slightly challenges the usual stereotype of a teenager which is a
miserable one.
