From the preliminary task I feel I have learned
a vast amount. For example I learn ed
that the font of your masthead is extremely important, they have to be eye
catching and encourage a passerby to pick the magazine up. I also learned the
importance of having an understanding of what your target audience is, for
example I made my target audience a multi gender magazine from the age of
roughly 16 to 25. Not only did I learn things regarding magazine production
techniques, but also the range of techniques that photoshop has to offer. I
learnt that using a drop shadow on the text in my cover page made it stand out
significantly more and thus encouraged people to buy the magazine. Another
technique I used was the soft rubber tool this allowed me to erase parts of
several images without damaging the parts I need which in the long run led to
my overall showcase of images being much smoother.
Another thing I learnt during the process is that appropriate target
audience research is vital in gaining knowledge regarding what you should put
into your magazine. For instance I acknowledged that for my magazine it would be important
to include both things suitable for women and a male audience. There was also a
great need to get feedback on what I had produced this was to check for any
basic errors. In the double page spread I had to ensure that my
written/journalism skills were top notch. To do this I had to research other
double page spreads.
